Documentary Target audience and avatar

Sports documentaries provide a broader understanding of what people compete in and can see an insight into the world of professional sport or sport they watch on tv. It can give a behind the scenes look that would be impossible to have without them and can further engage people in a sport they have never really been interested in. One such example is Drive to Survive which boosted F1s popularity post covid. Indeed according to sportspromedia around 54% of sports fans watch documentaries so there is plenty of appetite for this kind of production. Also in the case of my documentary it is somewhat educational as to the risks involved in high level sporting events.

Documentary Avatar:

Ben, 25, has always been an avid sports fan. Supports his local football team. Played sports when younger and plays for the village cricket team on the weekends. He already drew interest into sport documentaries when his dad recommended the series F1 Drive to survive. This showed him the background look into sports he could get through documentaries and sparked in interest in the sport he previously did not have . He has since watched the likes of Senna, Beckham, The Last Dance and Tour de France: Unchained so is among the masses of people who watch more documentaries after previously not interacting with the sport it focuses in on . However he does not simply like the drama and storylines in these series'. Ben wants to learn from what he watches and enjoys the educational side of a documentary compared to a film that can miss key elements of what is happening behind the scenes.
